Reimagining Recognition With Digital

1–2 minutes

Come along to our second CoP event where we’ll be diving into one of the most critical areas for sustaining volunteering: reward and recognition.

Event Details

The Eventbrite banner for the event. It includes the title: 'Reimaging Recognition with Digital'. The date: Thursday 11th September. The time: 10am until 12pm. And that it will be held online via Google Meet. It also includes the three confirmed speakers: Rachel Gegeshidze, the Chief Executive of Tempo; Laura Harmer, Community Partnerships Lead at Tickets for Good; David Maxwell, Volunteer Glasgow's Chief Executive; and Kim Donohue, Consultant.

What to Expect

Healthy volunteering programmes focus not just on attracting new volunteers but retaining existing ones. Good retention strategies are therefore crucial for sustainability in volunteering, and with these digital approaches have much to offer both for deepening relationships with volunteers through recognition and incentivising their involvement through perks and rewards.

This session will cover the whole spectrum of recognition, highlighting areas where digital has a valuable role to play and showcasing great examples of this.

This is likely to include making good use of common VMS comms and engagement tools, for purposes of recognition, as well as showcasing different digital tools and platforms used to reward and incentivise volunteers (such as Tempo).

We’ll also take the opportunity to revisit some key dos and don’ts when it comes to rewarding volunteering, which can be a tricky area to navigate.

About the Toolkit: Part 2 – Developing Your Practice

In December 2024, we launched Part 1 of the Digital in Volunteering Toolkit – a self-serve guide for volunteer managers looking to build digital confidence and develop a digital roadmap.

Part 2, launching in stages from June to December 2025, takes things further. Each release focuses on specific, thorny challenges in the volunteering ecosystem – from inclusion to infrastructure, from legal compliance to short-term task-based roles.

September’s release tackles how we can use digital to create volunteer journeys that feel valued, recognised, and sustained.
